love in the automat - w.i.p.

10.03.07 - the work-in-progress toy-packaging design for my short-film,
"love in the automat." the design is modeled closely after the action-figure packaging of the batman toys tied to the 1989 movie, directed by tim burton. those toys were put out by toy-biz.

my short-film's concept and plot were basically as follows: a person chooses one's lovers and the relationship's level of commitment... from a vending machine, based on the amount and quality of love-tokens he or she deposits in the vending machine. rather than coinage, for example, one would deposit roses, movie-tickets and the like. our heroine, the "emo-girl" whose packaging is pictured here, has trouble and the film follows her story, both in learning the ropes and toppling her rival. cultural commentary on the selling of self, media, persona, et cetera, ensues. as does action, one musical number and a showdown atop a throne of media. in the few minutes of the film i had edited together, our heroine would appear in the box on the right-hand side, inside a plastic "blister-pack" / bubble.

alas, the film is on hold for the time being, as i'd cast my then-girlfriend as the lead. after our break-up, i've taken to reworking the concept a bit, as well as recasting.

the production will be revamped, up and running in the near future however !
